There is no darker dungeon than the prison of our own bitterness. It is filled with people who have chosen to hold on to their own hurt rather than experience the freedom of putting it aside. The only light is that of the Father who reminds us that we have a possession which has not been taken away, a right that is ours by new birth.....it is our relationship with God. Though others may disappoint and hurt us, our most precious gift cannot be destroyed.
GospeLines Prayer:Father, teach us that we have a gift more precious than life. Let us know that our relationship with you is all we need to feel truly free. Help us to overcome our own bitterness and hurt and stand victoriously with You, our strength and our Redeemer. Amen and amen.
"Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God's wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge?" Job 37:14-16 (NIV)
Weíre cruising at an altitude of 30,000+ feet from Houston to San Francisco and itís bright and clear outside my window. I read for a while, but the gorgeous scenery beckons my attention. How awesome is our Father who created such beauty!
Iím just imagining His molding and shaping the landscape Ė the green space, the mountains, lakes, oceans, etc. I donít know about it, but do you suppose the billowing clouds are soft to the touch?
When we get closer to our destination and start our descent over the San Francisco Bay, one is amazed at how close we appear to be landing on the water instead of the runway. We are relying on the skill of the pilot and co-pilot to safely bring us in, with the guidance of the radar system and someone in the control tower.
Our landing is flawless and I am thankful to arrive in another part of Godís country safely.
GospeLines Prayer:Thank you Lord for providing the skills and knowledge for those pilots. Truly, You are in control of our lives and have given us the radar we need to stay on a righteous path. Admittedly, it isnít always easy and we may get off course.
But, You are always there Lord, just for the asking, navigating each step. I thank You for Your assurance of a safe landing, even if it only appears problem-free.
Life is an amazing journey and I am relying on You to be my pilot.
It was difficult for Jesus to find time and solitude to be with His disciples, especially during the Jewish Passover when thousands of pilgrims made their way to Jerusalem. His band of twelve needed to learn the deeper truths before the end. Jesus took them across the Sea of Galilee to a mountain retreat to be alone with them. But the crowds followed.
It was likely that these people were traveling, and unexpectedly came upon the Master. Their provisions for the trip would have been low by now and Jesus had compassion for their hunger. Turning to Philip, He asked where bread might be bought for such a multitude. But Philip saw the situation as hopeless and offered no solution.
Andrew said, "I will see what I can do." He found a young boy with a picnic lunch and brought the lad to Jesus. We never know what might come of introducing people to Jesus. Andrew didn't realize he was providing resources for a miracle that day. He was just doing what he could to help the situation.
Then there was the boy with his meager lunch, five barley loaves and a few pickled sardine-like fish. Barley was the bread of the very poor. It was the required trespass-offering from a woman who had committed adultery, because barley was the food of beasts and the woman's sin was the sin of a beast. Barley bread was held in contempt but it was everything the boy had, and on that day it was enough to feed the multitudes.
The miracle of life is that Jesus needs what we can bring to Him. Little is much in the hands of the Lord.
GospeLines Prayer:May our lives be enriched because we have given everything we have, not because we have given the most. Let us rejoice that what we consider meager or contemptuous, when itís put into your hands it can be transformed into a miracle to nourish the multitudes around us. Amen and amen.
"The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; The Lord make His face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace."
