"A Touch of Faith"

Innocently nestled in the sixth chapter of Mark's gospel, verse 56, are these unforgettable words:  "...And as many as touched Him were made well."

First, healing is not selective.  Jesus does not sort out the easy diseases or respond only to the desirable people.  He cannot be criticized for sexual, racial, age, or religious bias.

Second, some show of faith is required on the part of those who are sick.  God does not force healing upon us nor does He reward those who play games.  We must be determined.

Third, the result of faithful touching is freedom from the disease and wholeness from the fragmented life we had lived previously.  Jesus is more ready to receive our touch than we are willing to reach out by faith and receive His blessing.

GospeLines Prayer:  "Father, I reach out to you in my broken state, and beseech you to accept my touch of faith.  Heal me of everything that hinders my daily walk with you."  Amen and amen.

In the Stillness…

Many times when my spouse refers to my cat, he suggests that the cat serves no real purpose and is only good for sleeping and eating.  And, he says the only time he hears her talk is when she meows for food.  Of course, he tries to compare what Ziggy does (or doesn’t do) to what a dog might do.

I find the discourse amusing most of the time.  I chose a cat at the SPCA because I like the independence, her sweet nature, etc.  Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs too, but since we both work and if we’re a little late in the evenings, Ziggy can amuse herself and go to the litter box without my rushing home.

Her independence may drive him crazy, as she doesn’t always respond when called.  In fact, when I least expect it, that’s when she jumps up in my lap and calmly makes herself comfortable and dozes off.  Or, she just might nudge her head under my hand so that I’ll rub her back or her head.  She usually gets all the attention she wants.   And, he just shakes his head as he watches us curled up on the couch together.

I think about his statement from time-to-time about Ziggy only talking when she wants food; I actually hear her other times.  One would have to be still and quiet to do so, however.

It reminds me of our conversations with God.  When we’re busy running to and fro, we may not hear HIM.  In the stillness we have a much better chance of communing with HIM.  And, the one thing I love about HIM, HE does have a purpose for all the members of HIS kingdom.  We are all “uniquely HIS.”
